Emulate Others: Learn From Your Daughter

My daughter is living in Quito and I often wonder why she chose to move so far away.  What is so great about Ecuador?  She graduated from college in Albany New York one week and the next week decided to move to Ecuador.  It happened that fast, or at least it seemed like it happened so fast.

She had been to Ecuador before so she knew what she was getting into.  She had lived there for a semester while she was in college, but moving there this time meant she was an adult and all on her own.

The problem I have with it, besides missing her a whole heck of a lot, is that I think I am jealous of her.  Well, maybe it's not jealousy but I admire her freedom and commitment to herself.  She has the greatest determination and when she wants to do something, she will do it.

It is exactly what us baby boomers are trying to rediscover in our own selves.

So I can learn a lot from my daughter.

And, what is so great about Ecuador?

Wikipedia says:

Ecuador, officially the Republic of Ecuador, is a representative democratic republic in South America, bordered by Colombia on the north, by Peru on the east and south, and by the Pacific Ocean on the west. The country also includes the Galápagos Islands in the Pacific, about 600 miles west of the mainland. Ecuador straddles the equator, from which it takes its name, and has an area of 98,985 square miles. Its capital city is Quito; its largest city is Guayaquil.

My daughter lives in Quito, the capital city where they speak very little English.  That's OK because she is very fluent in Spanish and I am sure that's why the government hired her as an interpreter.

It is also one of the worlds cheapest places to live.  Of course, just because it's cheap it doesn't mean it's ideal as a retirement or investment destination.  However, the weather is beautiful and there is so much natural beauty.  You are close to the world famous Galapagos Islands, a wonder in itself.

You can live a comfortable lifestyle cheaply.  Also, you still also get all the amenities and comforts that we are accustomed to having such as cell phones and internet.

As a foreigner in Ecuador my daughter was welcomed and admired.

Consider what a wonderful place to retire.  As a retiree in Ecuador, you'll be treated with respect, and the people will be eager to get to know you.  What a perfect place to reconnect and live a good life.

Well, I can learn a lot from my daughter.
